Profile on Sarah
Principal of Roots of Rhythm
I started dancing at 3 years of age, just as a hobby. At the age of 10 I auditioned for the Junior Associates of the Royal Ballet School. I was successful with the audition so most Saturdays I travelled to Birmingham for lessons, during my time at the Royal Ballet I was lucky enough to dance with the Birmingham Royal Ballet in the Nutcracker at the Hippodrome.
When I had completed my years at the Royal Ballet School - Junior Associates, I then had a week at their residential Summer School. I attended many workshops at the Birmingham Royal Ballet studios, and on one occasion whilst there I auditioned for a course to be held at the Urdang in London, again I was successful so every other Sunday we travelled down to London for classes and at the end of the course a show was put on for parents at the Bloomsbury Theatre.
I continued with my classes at my local dance school, working my way through the Grades and Major Exams in Ballet, Tap & Modern, also taking part in many dance school productions, also the pantomime at the Malvern Theatre.
At the age of 16 I took my GCSE’s and made the decision on what I wanted to do, I had decided that dancing was my love and I would like to go to a dance school in London to get professional training, I auditioned at Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey, I was successful and they offered me a place to start in September 1998.
Whilst at Laine, I attained my Laine Theatre Arts Diploma (Dance), AISTD Teaching Diploma, Applied Anatomy & Physiology, LAMDA Gold Medal Verse & Prose and Gold Medal Acting.
Roots of Rhythm was established in 2002.
